Doctor of Philosophy is an educational and at the same time the first scientific degree obtained at the third level of higher education on the basis of a Master’s Degree. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy is awarded by a specialized academic council of a higher education institution or scientific institution as a result of successful completion of the relevant educational and scientific program by a higher education student and public defense of the PhD thesis in a specialized academic council
The third (educational and scientific) level of higher education corresponds to the eighth qualification level of the National Qualifications Framework and provides for the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, skills, abilities and other competencies sufficient to generate new ideas, solve complex problems in the field of professional and/or research and innovation activities, master the methodology of scientific and pedagogical activity, as well as conduct one’s own scientific research, the results of which have scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance.
Standard training period for obtaining a PhD Degree in postgraduate studies is four years. The educational and scientific curriculum of the postgraduate studies consists of educational and scientific components (240 ECTS credits). The educational component of the curriculum constitutes 30-60 ECTS credits, the scientific component makes up 180 ECTS.

The scientific component involves conducting own scientific research under the guidance of one or two academic supervisors, and presenting its results in the form of a PhD thesis
The PhD thesis for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy should be an independent detailed research that offers a solution to a topical scientific problem in professional education, the results of which constitute an original contribution to the knowledge in the field(s) published in relevant publications.
The PhD thesis in specialty 015 “Professional Education (by specialization)” in the field of knowledge 01 Education/Pedagogy relies on the main research and professional qualification function, which consists in the ability of a graduate student to conduct independent scientific research, solve relevant general theoretical and applied scientific problems, generalize scientific results in the form of conclusions, provisions of scientific novelty as personal contribution to the development of modern pedagogical science.
The result of the postgraduate student’s activity is the defense of a scientific work and obtaining the PhD Degree.
The field of employment includes establishments and institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, departmental educational institutions and institutions of various forms of ownership, scientific educational institutions and postgraduate education institutions and other institutions that require specialists of the eighth qualification level of the National Qualifications Framework, public organizations and communities that provide coaching and consulting services in the field of professional education, initiate various educational and scientific programs and projects.
